FATHER’S RESTORE YOUR HOME
Thursday, June 19th, 2008FATHER’S RESTORE YOUR HOME
The father is the source of the family. He is the one that God put in charge, he is the wellspring that provides a sense of well-being. Psychologists say that it is the father, or the lack of one, that is primarily responsible for either the nurturing or starving of a person’s sense of self-worth and wholeness. A father is intended to be God’s representative in the family. In this role, he has certain responsibilities. These are spelled out in three Biblical roles He is to fulfil.
A FATHER IS A PRIEST WHO REPRESENTS THE FAMILY TO GOD
A father carries his family to God in prayer (Job 1:5) 5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly. A father believes God for his family. 1. The father has a unique standing for the family before God and against the enemy. 2. Look at the scripture showing us these principles. Ex 12:1-11 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 “This month shall be your beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. 4 And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it according to the number of the persons; according to each man’s need you shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. 7 And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. 8 Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire — its head with its legs and its entrails. 10 You shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire. 11 And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the LORD’s Passover. Mark 9:20-2420 Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. 21 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” A father’s establishes the homes salvation. 1. In scripture, salvation affected the whole family Josh 24:14-15 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
John 4:53
53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household. Acts 11:13-15 14 who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.’ 2. In Scripture, a father’s righteousness covered the family protection. Gen 6:8 ; 188 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 18 But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark — you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
A FATHER SERVES AS A PROPHET TO HIS FAMILY
He represents God to those who are under his care
He speaks God’s Word to his family. He sets the example of godliness in the home (Eph 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. Eph 6:4 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
A FATHER SERVES AS A KING TO THE FAMILY
The role of king rightfully follows that of priest and prophet. This is a rightful progression, because once a man has become his family’s true priest and prophet, he can be king. When a man accepts this responsibility, God will back him with authority in the home that rules with wisdom and love….and is honored.
1. The father is to manage, oversee, and rule on behalf of God. 2. The father’s role may be liked to that of a commander in chief. Accountability Responsibility Gen 18:19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” Conclusion: you may not have grown up with a righteous father, but God wants to turn that around. He wants you to know you’ve been delivered from the curse of unrighteousness, and that you can forgive your father and begin your own godly line today.
